summary of the article

What is fragile skin?

With age, the skin becomes thinner and more fragile. When you pinch and pull your skin lightly between two fingers, the crease takes time to disappear. The epidermis ist more sensitive, it loses volume and resistance capacity in the face of external attacks. A fragile skin is skin that loses its hydration and his elasticity. In cause?
  • Changes hormonal :
  • The predisposition genetic ;
  • The slowdown of metabolism : over time, production hyaluronic acid, which naturally gives elasticity and volume to the skin, decreases;
  • THE UV rays, air pollution, nicotine consumption and alcohol consumption: they cause free radicals qwhich lead to oxidative stress on the skin. This accelerates the skin aging by damaging parts of the connective tissue.

Over time, the top layer of skin is less irrigated, receiving less moisture, oxygen and nutrients. But that's not all: the number and density of the dermal papillae decrease: they are in a way pillars of support between the upper and middle layers of the skin, and which are responsible for nourishing the skin.

How does our skin age?

To understand why the skin becomes fragile, we need to understand how it changes with age.

The first changes are observed from 30 years : the skin dehydrated more and more and small fine lines appear, as well as the first wrinkles, particularly on the forehead and eyes.

Towards 40 years, the skin gradually loses its elasticity and its volume, and needs more and more time to regenerate.

From 50 years, the skin becomes noticeably refined. We sometimes also see the appearance of pigment spots, on the face and hands.

At the age of 60 years, THE rides become deeper, redness appear, and the loss of skin elasticity becomes even more significant.

From the age of 70, the skin heals less quickly: it is increasingly fragile, more reactive to aggression and the environment.

What ingredients should you avoid when you have fragile skin?

When we have the fragile, thin skin, several ingredients must absolutely be avoided:

  • THE AHA (a-hydroxy acids). These are acids that generally come from fruits like apple, lemon or papaya. If they are frequently used to exfoliate the epidermis and help remove impurities and dead cells from the surface of the skin. The problem ? They are very poorly tolerated by sensitive skins, because they are aggressive for the skin barrier. They can then cause reactions such as irritation, tingling, redness or eczema;
  • THE sulfated surfactants : they are very irritating to the skin. They are found in the list of ingredients of cleansers to obtain foam. Shampoos, shower gels or even facial cleansers contain them: the problem is that these ingredients alter the skin barrier, which is already damaged when you have fragile skin.

If you have fragile skin, also avoid silicones, parabens, PEGs, irritants, allergens, comedogenic ingredients and petroleum derivatives by scanning your cosmetics on the cosmetic analysis applications.

What ingredients should you look for when you have fragile skin?

  • THE ceramides : they are naturally present in the epidermis. These are lipids that have the ability to maintain hydration and protect the skin against the harmful effects of oxidative stress. Look for it in serums and facial creams, to restore strength to your weakened skin ;
  • The niacinamide : also called vitamin B3, niacinamide encourages the skin to produce more ceramides. These prevent dehydration and combat the harmful effects of external aggressions. Since it retains hydration, your skin is more elastic, firmer, and less prone to damage. irritations and inflammation. Niacinamide is found in anti-aging face day cream Grangettes Switzerland, combined with hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid ;
  • L'hyaluronic acid : with age, the epidermis experiences a progressive decrease in collagen, elastic fibers and hyaluronic acid, naturally present in the skin: these three elements preserve the youth and firmness of your dermis. To fight against the thinning and weakening of your skin, look for creams that contain this magical ingredient!
  • The caffeine : it contains polyphenols, which offer powerful properties antioxidants. This makes it a good anti-aging ingredient that reduces photo-induced aging.

    Good actions to adopt when you have fragile skin

    Not to weaken more your skin:

    • Protect it from the rays of sun ;
    • Clean it with a gentle purifying gel, and not a soap, which could further dry the skin;
    • Sleep enough: at least 7 or 8 hours per night, because tissue regeneration occurs during sleep;
    • Eat foods rich in vitamins C, because it protects the skin;
    • Drink at least 1.5L of water per day.
